The Diversity at HMR Committee has been hard at work listening and strategizing on effective ways we can take action to make this a more equitable country. We invite all HMR properties to participate at noon on Juneteenth, Friday June 19th, for 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence in tribute to George Floyd in this time of hope and change.
We believe it will be powerful to gather at each HMR Community with staff, residents and local stakeholders. HMR will be live streaming on Facebook from Village at Lakeview and we also welcome you to live stream on your property’s Facebook page. Attached is the post that will be going out on all HMR property Facebook pages. Please send any site specific edits to Maxine at mramos@hmrproperties.com to specify where and how people will gather at your property. We welcome your creativity in finding ways to make this meaningful for your team. Some properties are planning to put out black, red, yellow, and green balloons to signify Juneteenth. Others are urging residents to come out on their balconies to share this moment. Across the country we have seen leaders kneel in support of Black Lives Matter, which is a powerful and respectful gesture.
As promised, we are providing each community with positive messaging lawn signs stating Better Together, IREACH for Everyone, Be the Change, Hate Has No Home Here, and More Love, Less Fear. These should be arriving over the next couple of weeks. Please place them thoughtfully around your property. This is another opportunity to show HMR Cares through positive and inclusive messaging. We hope each of you will use these opportunities to take action, not only at noon on Juneteenth, but as a sustained effort to support equality and justice for all. We invite you to take the afternoon off to reflect, celebrate or volunteer.
The Diversity at HMR Committee is forming subcommittees to help continue this work. Please reach out to diversity@hmrproperties.com to volunteer.
Better Together,
The Diversity at HMR Committee
